Consonant sounds [ф], [в], [с], [з]
Consonants can be voiced and voiceless. In russian language there are 6 pairs of voiced and voiceless consonants. In this lesson you will learn forth and fifth pair of voiced and voiceless consonants: в, ф and з, с.
Consonant letter В в [в], [ф] – voiced, sounds almost like «v» in english word «vote». And it sounds almost like «f» in english word «father» - at the end of the word and syllable.
While pronouncing the sound [в] under lip touches the upper teeth. The tongue is taken backwards. The air stream breaks through the little chink between lip and teeth. The vocal cords work.
While pronouncing the sound [ф] the articulation is the same, but the air stream is stronger and vocal cords don’t work.
Consonant letter Ф ф [ф] – voiceless, sounds almost like «f» in english word «father». While pronouncing the sound [ф] the articulation is like the pronouncing [в], but the air stream is stronger and vocal cords don’t work.

Consonant letter З з [з], [с] – voiced, sounds almost like «z» in english word «zone». And it sounds almost like «s» in english word «speak» - at the end of the word and syllable.
While pronouncing the sound [з] sides of the tongue touch the upper teeth and the tip of the tongue slightly touches the lower teeth. The air stream breaks through the little chink making a sibilant sound. Vocal cords work.
While pronouncing the sound [с] the articulation is the same, but vocal cords don’t work.

Disyllabic words with the accent on the first syllable. Model ТАта
In Russian language the accent may fall on every syllable. In this lesson you will learn the words with two syllables and with an accent on the first syllable.

Intonation of declarative sentence (IC-1)
There are five main intonational constructions in Russian. The intonational construction IC-1 conveys the message, the completed statement (declarative sentence).
